The Journal of Islamic Thought publishes double-blind peer-reviewed articles and book reviews on scholarly research related to Islam, Muslim societies, and broader issues of philosophy, ethics, and intellectual tradition.

The Editorial Team is committed to ensuring that the peer-review and publication process is thorough, impartial, and fair.

Our publication code of ethics is based on the principles established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), which provides internationally recognized standards for integrity in academic publishing. This framework safeguards the quality of the journal and ensures that all published content meets the highest scholarly and ethical standards.

This statement applies to all manuscripts submitted to the Journal of Islamic Thought. Authors, reviewers, and members of the editorial team are expected to uphold these principles. Any ethical concerns should be directed to the Editor-in-Chief.

Code of Ethics for Authors

  • Ensure that all listed authors have made a genuine academic contribution to the work.
  • Submit only original manuscripts that are not under consideration by any other journal.
  • Present research accurately, avoiding data fabrication, falsification, or plagiarism.
  • Provide sufficient detail and references to allow replication and verification of results.
  • Disclose any potential conflicts of interest.
  • Secure written permission for any previously published material (e.g., images, figures, tables).
  • Notify the Editorial Team promptly if significant errors are discovered post-publication.
  • Transparently declare any use of AI or AI-assisted technologies during research or manuscript preparation.

Examples of misconduct include plagiarism, self-plagiarism, duplicate submission, fabricated data, citation manipulation, and failure to disclose competing interests.

  • Treat all manuscripts with impartiality, fairness, and confidentiality.
  • Ensure that decisions to accept, revise, or reject manuscripts are based solely on scholarly merit and journal scope.
  • Maintain transparency with authors throughout the submission and review process.
  • Refrain from using unpublished material for personal advantage.
  • Reassign any manuscript where a conflict of interest exists.
  • Uphold consistency and reliability in applying journal policies and ethical standards.

  • Provide objective, constructive, and timely evaluations.
  • Respect the confidentiality of the review process.
  • Refrain from using unpublished material for personal or professional benefit.
  • Recuse themselves from reviewing if a conflict of interest exists.
  • Alert the Editorial Team to any ethical concerns, including suspected plagiarism, fabrication, or duplicate publication.

The journal operates a double-blind peer-review process to ensure objectivity and fairness.

Post-Publication Ethics

In cases where ethical issues arise after publication, the journal may issue an:

  • Erratum – to correct errors introduced by the journal.
  • Corrigendum – to correct errors introduced by the authors.
  • Retraction – if a published article is found to be seriously flawed or unethical.
  • Addendum – to provide additional clarification or context to a published work.

Misconduct such as plagiarism, falsification, or unethical research practices will result in rejection, retraction, and possible sanctions, including restrictions on future submissions.
